‘The Book of Mormon’
at the Fox Theatre July 17-22
“The Book of Mormon,” the musical comedy by the creators of “South Park” and the musical writer for “Avenue Q,” opens at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta July 17-22. Running on Broadway since 2011, “The Book of Mormon” won nine Tony Awards, one of which was for Best Musical, and a Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album.
The New York Times referred to it as “heaven on Broadway.” The Washington Post wrote in an article that the “South Park” creators, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, have discovered their true calling — as the wit-spewing class clowns of Broadway, and that the musical’s “heart is as pure as that of a Rodgers and Hammerstein show.”
Still running on Broadway, “The Book of Mormon,” is one of the Top Ten highest-grossing shows of all time as of April, according to Playbill. The show is about two young Mormon missionaries who travel to Uganda to preach the Mormon religion.
The Guardian writes, “Parker and Stone have produced a work of comedic genius that exceeds critical hype and hyperbole: The Book of Mormon is an exceptional, visionary and all-round entertaining musical masterpiece, genital jokes and all.”
Tickets are on sale now at the Fox Theatre.
